The recreational Pacific halibut fishery will close statewide effective August 5, 2023 due to projections that the annual California recreational quota will be met by that date.

Pacific Halibut are generally deeper water fish and eyes looks to the right. A California Halibut can be found in the surf and eyes can be right or left. The Pacific is much more massive than the California (500 lbs vs 70 lbs).
